Open Door Outreach Center opens their hearts to families in need throughout the areas surrounding Waterford Township. They provide a variety of necessary services to help families and individuals who may be experiencing difficult times. Run by volunteers, they know that the community at large can make a notable difference in the lives of their neighbors.

Neighbor Helping Neighbor Mission

For over 20 years, Open Door follows a mission of neighbors helping out neighbors. Any family that needs food, clothing or resources to guide them through the hard times can rely on the kindness of Open Door. Donations are always welcome. For every dollar donated, 94 cents go directly to the services provided.

Client Choice Food Pantry and Special Programs

At the Client Choice Food Pantry, they distribute over 250,000 pounds of food and assist more than 8,700 people. Each month, eligible candidates receive the fruit of the center’s labors and donations. Recently, they moved their food wares into a larger pantry with an on-site warehouse, so they can seamlessly supply families in need with a grocery list of items.

During specific times of the year, they work even harder to make the lives of others special. Easter Meals, Thanksgiving Meals, and Christmas/Holiday Meals Programs put together full feasts for those in need including seniors and disabled individuals. When school lets out, they hold their Child Summer Food Program.

Before school starts again, the Back to School Program hands out backpacks stuffed with school supplies, a voucher for the Resale Store, and a gift card to shop for shoes at Kohl’s or Meijer. The Adopt-A-Family Program brightens the Christmas holiday for eligible families who are most in need of some cheer.

Shop at the Resale Store

Donate your used clothing or purchase items and clothing at the Resale Store, which assists qualified candidates. Any proceeds fund the Outreach Center. In the past, over 500 households received items for their home there.

How You Can Help

Volunteers and a small part-time staff work at the center. To be considered a volunteer, you can complete a minimum of three hours a week. If you wish to donate, make a financial contribution or donate a gift card.

Most donations and funds for the center stem from individuals like you, local businesses, and charitable or religious groups. You can even organize a food drive to help stock our food pantry!
