What Does March of Dimes Do?
March of Dimes can trace its origins back to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s struggle with polio that birthed the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, better known as March of Dimes.
They began the vaccine research that led to the eradication of polio here in the United States. But they weren’t finished. On the contrary, they shifted all their resources to address major health threats to moms and babies with innovations such as folic acid and newborn screening.
Today, they continue to make a difference by educating the public and medical professionals about best practices and continuing to fund research. The nonprofit also provides comfort and support to families in NICUs and continues to be a fierce advocate for moms and babies everywhere.
How Can I Get Involved?
If March of Dimes sounds like a worthy cause to you, there are plenty of ways to get involved. For instance, you could volunteer—even virtually from home—in so many ways. Create your own fundraising event to raise money for the cause or become a volunteer leader and support the work at a local or national level.
You can also donate financially to make a difference. Your donation can help provide pregnant women and families in the NICU with the support and resources they need—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. It can help keep moms and their babies healthy and virus-free via needed resources.
